Mix together gluten-free flour, nutritional yeast, paprika, onion powder, and garlic powder.

My favorite gluten-free and dairy-free flour mixes are Better Batter Gluten-Free Flour, and Pamela’s Artisan Blend, but you can use your preferred brand. You may be able to find nutritional yeast in the bakery aisle at your local grocery store as it’s becoming more commonly used. If not, you can buy it online at Amazon.

Steps to make air fryer gluten-free chicken nuggets

Set up a little assembly line to dip your chicken pieces in. Spritz the basket of the air fryer with avocado or olive oil using an oil sprayer. Begin by dipping each piece of chicken into a bowl of almond milk and then into the gluten-free flour mixture. Make sure to coat the chicken in the flour mixture completely.

Then, place in the air fryer in a single layer with some space between each piece so that the air will flow easily around them.

Use an oil sprayer to spritz as much of the top of the chicken with the oil as you can. You don’t want a heavy coating but enough to wet the flour mixture. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Then bake at 400° for 4 minutes. Pull out the air fryer basket and turn each piece of chicken over, and spritz with oil again. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Bake for 4 more minutes at 400°.

    Description

Easy to make tender gluten-free air fryer chicken nuggets.

    Ingredients

    Scale
    • 1 lb chicken breasts (2 breasts)
    • ⅔ cup almond milk
    • ⅔ cup gluten-free flour blend*
    • ⅓ cup nutritional yeast
    • ½ teaspoon paprika
    • ½ teaspoon onion powder
    • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
    • salt & pepper

    Instructions

    1. Start with a pound of chicken breast and cut into long strips around an inch wide. Then cut each strip into 1-inch pieces.
    2. In a medium-sized bowl, mix together the gluten-free flour, nutritional yeast, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Whisk until combined.
    3. Use an oil sprayer to spray the basket of the air fryer with avocado or olive oil.
    4. Set up a little assembly line to dip your chicken pieces in. Begin by dipping each piece of chicken into a bowl of almond milk and then into the gluten-free flour mixture. Make sure to coat the chicken in the flour mixture completely.
    5. Then, place the nuggets in the air fryer in a single layer with some space between each piece so that the air will flow easily around them. You’ll probably need to cook them in two different batches.
    6. Use an oil sprayer to spritz as much of the top of the chicken with the oil as you can. You don’t want a heavy coating but enough to dampen the flour mixture. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
    7. Bake at 400° for 4 minutes. Pull out the air fryer basket, turn each piece of chicken over, and spritz with oil again. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Bake for 4 more minutes at 400°.
    8. When both batches are done, you can add the first batch to the basket and cook for 1 minute so they are all hot when you’re ready to serve.

    Notes

Depending on the size of your air fryer basket you may need to cook these in 2-3 batches. Total cooking time for each batch is 8 minutes.

Always check your seasonings to make sure they are gluten-free.

*Better Batter and Pamela’s Artisan Blend are my favorite gluten-free and dairy-free flour mixes.

Would there be a difference in cooking time if I did 1″ strips instead of nuggets? My air fryer is new and I’m trying to learn about cooking times.

I would cook them for about 2 additional minutes. Have fun with your new air fryer!

What is the purpose of the nutritional yeast? Is it required?

The nutritional yeast adds extra flavor. It gives a slightly cheesy flavor and just overall more flavorful.

Could these be frozen? If so, how are they to be reheated?

Yes, they can be frozen. Freeze them on a parchment lined tray and after frozen store them on a freezer bag or container. To reheat, remove desired amount and place them in the air fryer in a single layer and air fry at 400° until thawed and heated through, around 5-8 minutes. Check them halfway through.
