These air fryer fried potatoes are one of the easiest things to make in an air fryer! My mom would make us fried potatoes when we were little and we loved them. It was also one of my husband’s favorite dishes. So I wanted to recreate that delicious taste of fried potatoes by cooking them in the air fryer. It’s so easy and you use just a tiny bit of oil and that also makes this recipe for fried potatoes a lot less messy than how they’re traditionally made.
This recipe is for one serving but can be doubled or tripled depending on the size of your air fryer. And you can make them with or without onions. For even more fun try my homemade Chick-fil-A sauce to dip them in.

Instructions
Take a russet potato and wash and dry it. Cut it into 1/4-inch slices.
Spray the basket of your air fryer with a little bit of avocado or olive oil.
Place the potato slices in the air fryer basket and spread them out. Spritz just a little oil on the potatoes and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
Cook at 400° for 5 minutes. Lightly spritz the potatoes again and then turn them over. Spritz again with oil and cook for another 5 minutes. Remove any that look done and cook for another 2 minutes.
*If you want to add in some sliced onions add them when you turn the potatoes over.
And that is it! So easy and tasty.
**If you double or triple your recipe you may need to add an extra minute or two to the cooking time if your potatoes get a little crowded.
Tips for using an air fryer
- My number one tip for using the air fryer would be to not overcrowd the food in the air fryer basket. The food will cook faster and more evenly when there’s room for the heat to circulate.
- Use an oil sprayer to lightly coat your food with an oil that has a high smoke point like avocado or olive oil. You may need to mist your food a couple of times throughout the cooking process, especially in areas that may look dry.
- Lightly pepper your food on top once you put it in the air fryer. When it comes time to turn your food halfway through cooking you’ll be able to easily tell which pieces have been turned.

Tried this recipe once and the potatoes and onions were delicious. I have my second attempt in the air fryer at this time and I’m sure my wife and I will enjoy them. Thanks for the recipe.

I miss my mom’s fried potatoes but have never been able to do them in a skillet like she did. These were amazing and SO much easier! Thank you!

Thank you for posting. The timing was good, even though I used a dehydrator rack for the Instant Pot air fryer lid. They turned out tender inside and crisp outside-just perfect.
This is my first time on your site and I have to say you have the most beautiful smile.

soak them for half an hour in water better and than dry them and cook them.

If you have time and want to that would be fine. I like the ease of slicing and cooking.

You recommend a spray olive oil for them? Is it a special type of Olive oil spray? I know avocado oil has a higher smoke point. I didn’t know Olive oil could take the heat? Am I missing something here? Any help would be appreciated creator.
The only spray oil I have currently is Canola. And I read that it’s healthy, just a bit worried about the smoke point in an Air-Fryer.
Very green here.

Yes, olive oil can take the heat as well as avocado oil. I mostly use avocado oil in my spritzer to spray on food that I cook in my air fryer.
