Just look at that plate of apple crisp! It gets the senses going. It looks good, tastes yummy, and baked apples are one the best smells ever. I think so anyway!
Tips For Making Gluten-Free Apple Crisp:
- Using two or three different types of apples in a recipe gives the finished dish a much richer taste. In this recipe I combined Golden Delicious and Fuji apples.
- I added gelatin protein in this recipe to add extra nutrition and it helps the crumble to have a crispier texture. The gelatin is optional in the recipe but it might lose a little of the crispiness if you decide not to use it.
- To make it sugar-free use erythritol and stevia in place of the sugar.

2 tablespoons erythritol, or erythritol based sweetener blend

Mix almond flour, golden flax meal, sugar, gelatin, baking powder, and salt together and then mix in melted coconut oil. Crumble mixture evenly over apples.
Bake uncovered for 25 minutes and then remove from oven. Lower oven temperature to 325°. Cover with aluminum foil (shiny side up). Bake for 15 more minutes.
Apples should be tender and the crisp should be golden brown.
Notes
*I like to use at least 2 different types of apple to get more flavor like Golden Delicious and Fuji. Look for apples that are listed as being good in baking.
Use Granny Smith apples if you are following THM.

What if we did Baking Blend instead of almond flour?? Would that work and would you know the amount to use?
MamaShire
I haven’t tried it with the baking blend so I can’t say exactly, but the THM baking blend is a thirstier flour so maybe try a little less. Let me know if you try it and how it works.

Can I substitute oat flour for almond flour? We have a friend who’s part of our home group who is almond and egg allergic, and I love to bake, but am at a loss as to yummy deserts for our group. This would be perfect!

Hi Jo Anne, I haven’t tried that myself in this recipe, but I believe the oat flour will work just fine. Hope you all enjoy it!

Never heard of gelatin protein powder , do you have a specific brand you use?
Thanks
MamaShire
Yes, I use Great Lakes gelatin. There is a direct link to it on Amazon. Just click the word gelatin that is highlighted and it will take you there.

I love this recipe. It turned out delicious. I added some additional flax meal to make it a little more bulky.
MamaShire
So glad you loved it! And good idea with the flax meal.
