Make this homemade yum yum sauce in just minutes with simple pantry ingredients. You’ll love how creamy, tangy, and yummy this tastes. Drizzle it over your rice bowls, use it as a dipping sauce, or spread it on a burger. Best of all, you can make it both gluten-free and dairy-free. It’s amazing with roasted vegetables like my Roasted Broccoli or Potato Wedges.

    What is Yum Yum Sauce

Seeing it at restaurants and knowing it had dairy in it, I hadn’t tried it, but was really curious. I mean, it’s called yum yum sauce. So, I started looking into it and making it myself, and fell in love.

The story of its beginning is that it was created in America at a Japanese steakhouse, and it was given the name yum yum sauce because it was so good.

A little condiment glass bowl with yum yum sauce served with roasted broccoli and potato wedges.

How to make yum yum sauce

The mayonnaise that I use is Chosen Foods Classic Mayo with Avocado Oil. I usually buy it from Costco. It’s a really tasty gluten-free mayo.

Pick a ketchup that is gluten-free and has no high fructose corn syrup.

A mixing bowl with a freshly mixed yum yum sauce.

Place all of the ingredients into a medium-sized bowl. Whisk together until combined. Refrigerate for at least an hour to allow flavors to blend.

This recipe is so easy to make, you’ll turn to it over and over.

    How to store

Store in a glass container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

    Ways to serve it

I love using it as a dipping sauce with my roasted veggies, over my rice bowls, with baked chicken, gluten-free zucchini fritters, or even spread on a hamburger. There are so many ways to enjoy it.

    Description

Make this homemade yum yum sauce in just minutes with simple pantry ingredients. You’ll love how creamy, tangy, and yummy this tastes.

    Ingredients

    Scale
    • 1 cup mayonnaise (gluten-free)
    • ¼ cup ketchup (gluten-free)
    • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
    • 2 teaspoons onion powder
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
    • ½ teaspoon paprika
    • ½ teaspoon sea salt

    Optional for a little heat:

A dash or two of hot sauce or ⅛ teaspoon of cayenne

    Instructions

Whisk all ingredients together in a medium-sized mixing bowl.

Refrigerate for at least an hour to allow flavors to blend.

If you would like a thinner consistency, you can add a small amount of water. Try adding 2 teaspoons of water at a time to get your desired consistency.

Store in a glass container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

    Notes

Mayo: My favorite mayo to use is Chosen Foods Classic Mayo with Avocado Oil. I find it at Costco for the best price.

Ketchup: Look for a brand that does not have high fructose corn syrup or gluten.
