Notes on ingredients
Apples: I used Granny Smith apples in this recipe; you could also use a combination of Gala, Golden Delicious, and Granny Smith. You’ll need 3 lbs of apples. Once peeled and sliced, you should have around 8 cups.
Gluten-Free Flour: I use Pamela’s 1-1 Gluten-Free Four.
Dairy-Free Butter: I like Country Crock Plant-Based Butter with avocado oil. If you don’t need this to be dairy-free, use real grass-fed butter.
How to make apple crisp
- Preheat oven to 350°. Grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish.
- Peel, core, and slice the apples.
- Spread the sliced apples out in the casserole dish.
- Mix the sugar, nutmeg, and cinnamon together and sprinkle over the apples.
- Melt the dairy-free butter over low heat. Once melted, add it to the gluten-free flour and brown sugar and mix until combined. Crumble this over the apples.
- Bake for 45 minutes or until golden brown.
Once baked, it can be served warm. It can also be served cool. Delicious either way.
How to store
This can be stored covered on the counter for 1-2 days. It will last longer if stored in the refrigerator.
To freeze apple crisp, place it in a freezer-safe container and freeze for up to 3 months. To thaw, put in the refrigerator overnight.
