Puppy Chow is a classic treat and now you can enjoy it gluten-free and dairy-free.
9 cups Rice Chex cereal
1 cup dairy-free chocolate chips, Enjoy Life or Nestle’s Allergen Free chips
1/2 cup peanut butter, gluten-free
1/4 cup buttery spread, Smart Balance or Earth Balance
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 ½ cups powdered sugar, divided
Pour the 9 cups of cereal onto a large baking pan or a large bowl. Set aside.
Stovetop Option: Place the chocolate chips and peanut butter into a small saucepan and heat on low on your stovetop, stirring while it melts. Once it melts and is smooth, remove from heat and stir in the vanilla.
Microwave option: In a microwavable bowl, heat the chocolate chips and peanut butter on high for 1 minute, stir. Heat for 30 more seconds and then stir until smooth. Stir in the vanilla.
Drizzle the chocolate mixture over the cereal. Use a large spatula or spoon in both hands and stir the cereal mixture until it’s completely covered with the chocolate mixture.
Next, add 3/4 cup of powdered sugar to each of the gallon-sized resealable plastic bags. Add half of the cereal mixture to each bag, seal, and shake till the powdered sugar covers all of the cereal.
Pour into a large serving bowl and enjoy!
A fun way to serve these and to make sure that they don’t get cross-contaminated with any gluten at a party is to place them in small treat bags.
