You know when you want some crispy fried chicken but you don’t want all the mess that comes with it by frying it in a skillet with all the oil. Well, an air fryer is your answer. With these air fryer chicken wings, you’ll get crispy skin and tender meat without all the oil or the mess.
Let’s face it not many of us live in areas where we can go out to eat and safely order gluten-free meals. That’s one of the reasons that I think having good kitchen appliances like an air fryer is so helpful for those of us who have to make most of our own meals.

There is no breading on these chicken wings just the natural crispiness of the skin and because I’m all about it being gluten-free I love that recipes like this are naturally gluten-free. So don’t wait any longer, get those wings frying and you can have crispy chicken wings in less than 30 minutes.
How to Cut Chicken Wings:
Start with 1 1/2 pounds of chicken wings, mine measured out to seven whole wings. If they aren’t already cut use a sharp knife to cut between the joints. You’ll be able to find just the right spot to cut and when you do it’s pretty easy. We’re going to discard the tips or you could save them in the freezer to make chicken broth at a later time.
My Favorite Oil Sprayer:
You’ll want to have an oil sprayer/spritzer to use with your air fryer. You’ll want to lightly spray the basket of your air fryer and lightly spray the food you’re cooking to help it get a nice crispy texture. You won’t need much just a really light spritz.
How to Cook Chicken Wings in an Air Fryer:
Spray the basket of your air fryer with oil and place the wings in the basket so they don’t overlap. Spritz the wings with the oil a couple of times and a little sprinkle of salt. Cook for 10 minutes at 400°.
The chicken wings will look like this after cooking for 10 minutes. Give them a little spritz of oil before turning, then turn them over and spritz a couple more times.
Cook for 10 more minutes at 400°. I use a meat thermometer to check my chicken to make sure it’s thoroughly cooked so I don’t have to try and guess it’s so simple to use and very inexpensive. This meat thermometer is the one I use.
Pro tip: If you make a second batch of chicken wings remove the inner basket from the air fryer and carefully pour out any grease that is collected in the bottom basket into a heatproof cup or bowl. This will help keep the air fryer from smoking during the second batch and from having too much grease in the bottom basket.
And just like that, you have a plate of delicious crispy fried chicken wings.
This is a simple and basic way to make air-fried chicken wings but you can get creative and add any spices that you might like or add the special sauce I used with these Korean Air Fryer Chicken Wings.
